The possibility of complete and valuable urodynamic examination in children is reduced by the degree of their cooperation with investigating surgeon. Especially in small children is often the standard evaluation not possible to provide. Authors have investigated the influence of inhaled general anesthesia to results of urodynamic evaluation in filling cystometry and have compared these results to values obtained by infant examination in full consciousness.
Comparing the results in a group of 15 infants the authors have found out that the values of intravesical pressure and its increase dynamic under standard inhaled general anesthesia were almost identical as in examination of full conscious patient. Under general anesthesia were not recorded any unsuppressed detrusor contractions, documented in starting examination of patients. The urodynamic examination of children under anesthesia is suitable for assessment of detrusor hyperactivity and also for assessment of low compliance of the urinary bladder.
