Laparoscopic tumornephrectomy - first experiences

Autors refer about their experiences with transabdominal laparoscopic approach when removing kidney with tumor. From May 1998, autors as first in Slovac Republic, carried out laparoscopic tumornephrectomy and until December 1999 5 kidneys with tumors were removed. In all these patients transperitoneal approach was used. Autors discuss indications, advantages and results of this surgical technique. In all 5 cases malignant tumor (renal cell carcinoma) was found. The diameter of tumor was in range from 5 to 9 centimeters. There were no serious per or postoperative complications. Duration of operation was 260 - 330 minutes.
