A retrospective study of results of optical urethrotomy in 42 patients with 82 procedures is presented. Influence of etiology, duration, localization of stricture and number of procedures upon results of the treatment were evaluated.
The less favourable etiological factor was inflamatory origin where was no urethrotomy successful. Stricturel longer than 5 mm were not solved endoscopically as well. Bulbar urethra with short stricture was the only localization where the permanent success was noted. Reccurent optical urethrotomy has had no permanent curable effect.
We use endoscopic curative procedure only on these patients who suffer from post-traumatical or postoperative stricture of bulbar urethra not longer than 5 mm on the base of our experience, and open reconstruction is performed on the others.
