The authors present a cohort of patients with a tumor of upper urinary tract in whom the coincidence of bladder urothelial carcinoma was surveyed. 48 patients with urothelial carcinoma of upper urinary tract were diagnosed and underwent surgery from 1988 to 1998. Patients were followed up for 14 to 144 months after surgery. The coincidence of carcinoma of upper urinary tract and urinary bladder was observed in 44% (21 patients). When comparing the grading of upper urinary tract tumours with bladder tumours, in 52% it was the same, in 38% higher and in 10% lower. The maximum of incidence was in the seventh decade (48% patients). A higher incidence was observed in women, than it is common in bladder tumours. High coincidence was observed in ureteric carcinoma with bladder carcinoma (65%). The coincidence of upper urinary tract carcinoma and bladder carcinoma originates from multilocular involvement of urothelium with tumour and is not only indication for nephrectomy and ureterectomy, but also for regular cystoscopic controls with adequate adjuvant therapy.
