Malignant mesothelioma is a rare scrotal tumor. 80 cases of malignant mesothelioma are reported in the literature. We present a case report of a 60-year-old man with the scrotal tumor and signs of metastatic disease (cachexia and lymph node involvement). Tumor presented as a solid scotal resistance, this is not typical. The treatment was limited in the patient with advenced malignant disease and only the primary surgery was performed.

Ces Urol 2007, 11(3):77-81 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2007016
Introduction: Neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD) significantly decreases the quality of life of patients and, in some cases, may markedly impair the function of the upper urinary tract. The standard first-choice treatment in these patients is administration of anticholinergic drugs, however, in some patients, this treatment fails to work. While in the past these patients were mostly offered radical surgical treatment, recently therapy with botulinum toxin (BTX) has become available. Our objective was to assess efficacy and safety of this therapeutic procedure in our own cohort of patients. Material and methods: Our cohort...

Ces Urol 2007, 11(3):82-86 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2007017
Introduction: The aim of our study was to compare Gleason score in biopsy and after radical prostatectomy to form a mathematical model for more accurate prediction of carcinoma grading after prostatectomy already from initial biopsy.Material and methods: our group included 159 patients after radical prostatectomy at our institution. We perform reevaluation of bioptic and postoperative specimens according to new recommendation of pathologists. Results: in biopsies there were 46,4% specimens included into intermediate grade and 53,5% specimens included into high grade cancers while after prostatectomy there were only 21,3%...

Ces Urol 2007, 11(3):90-93 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2007019
Introduction: The aim is to compare the correlation of serum creatinine and cystatin C levels with glomerular filtration rates in a cohort of patients with a spinal cord lesion as well as to evaluate the benefit of using cystatin C as a marker of renal function in these patients.Material and methods: Our cohort included a total of 32 patients (29 men, 3 women) after a spinal cord lesion. The average age in the cohort was 51.7 (18-76) years and the average time since spinal cord injury was 15.7 (4-61) years. All the patients were investigated for serum creatinine and cystatine C levels and underwent creatinine clearance measurement...

Ces Urol 2007, 11(3):94-97 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2007020
Objective: To evaluate the prognostic value of microsatellite analysis on chromosome 3 in patients with conventional renal cell carcinoma. Methods: A total of 63 patients with localized histologically confirmed renal cell carcinoma were included in a prospective study. The patients underwent nephrectomy or partial resection between 2002 and 2005. We observed the study group for the frequency of loss of heterozygosity (LOH) on chromosome 3 as well as for the relation of loss of heterozygosity to tumour size and grade and/or the course of the disease. Results: Marker D3S1289 was informative in 82.5% and D3S1560 in 84.1 %...
Management of massive recurrent haematuria following percutaneous concrement extraction using selective embolization of intrarenal artery
M. Laboš, J. Poch, V. Mašková, V. Janík
Ces Urol 2007, 11(3):101-104 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2007021
The case of a patient with massive recurrent hematuria into the urinary system of the right kidney which occured after percutaneous nephrolithotomy is described. Hematuria was resolved by selective embolization of damaged intrarenal artery by using a metal coil.
Detection of newly identified cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome in patients evaluated initially for erectile dysfunction
J. Jarabák, R. Zachoval
Ces Urol 2007, 11(3):107-111 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2007022
The objective is to evaluate the detection of new, as yet undiagnosed cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome in men examined initially for erectile dysfunction.A cohort of 162 men who had, for the first time, been examined at our centre for erectile dysfunction in the years 2005 and 2006 was evaluated retrospectively. In addition to standard history-taking, physical examination, and laboratory evaluations of andrological and urological nature, the internal history of all the patients was taken, with special attention being paid to cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome (shortness of breath, chest pain, lower limb pain, feeling of...
Potential use of tissue adhesives during kidney-sparing surgery for kidney cancer
M. Hora, V. Eret, T. Ürge, J. Klečka
Ces Urol 2007, 11(3):147-153 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2007023
Objective: To present an overview of recent knowledge of tissue adhesives in general as well as with an emphasis on where they are most widely used in urology, i. e., during both open and laparoscopic kidney resections. Results: A wide variety of tissue adhesives are commercially available. For kidney resection, fibrin (containing fibrin, thrombin, and other components) and thrombin sealants (containing thrombin dissolved in gelatin which activates the patient's fibrinogen) are mainly used. Fibrin sealants require a dry resection surface which cannot be achieved particularly in laparoscopic kidney resections; therefore, fibrin sealants...
