Študent V ml., Študentová H. Cytoreductive nephrectomy: identifying an ideal candidate based on preoperative predictive factors. Treatment of metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) has changed dramatically in recent years. Targeted therapy (TT) and, more recently, immunotherapy in the form of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have brought about a dramatic prolongation of the overall survival (OS) of patients. The urologist's role in mRCC is associated with cytoreductive nephrectomy (CN), which aims to alleviate symptoms or prolong OS. The oncological benefits of CN have recently been questioned through two prospective randomized studies, CARMENA...

Fedorko M, Plevová M, Válek V, Filipenský P, Tuček Š. An 80-year-old patient with an incidental finding of a 2-cm renal mass: a model case report and analysis of treatment options. The article presents a model case of an elderly patient with a small renal tumor and discusses possible treatment options. It follows the communication presented by specialists from various medical disciplines at the 6th year of "Komplexní novinky v onkourologii (KNOU21)" conference. The specific finding, the possible biological nature of the lesion, the natural course of the disease, the meaning, benefit and risks of active or delayed treatment and the specifics of the...

Paldus V, Šámal V, Fáčková D, Mečl J. Antimicrobial resistance development - prevalence and antibiotic resistance patterns of bacterial strains in urine. Objective: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has become a global concern. However there are significant differences with regard to local epidemiological factors across continents, countries and even medical facilities. Local assessment of antimicrobial resistance development is one of the essential tools in the fight against the AMR spread. The aim of our work is to evaluate the occurrence of resistant urinary strains, analyze the development of resistance and compare AMR in intensive care units (ICU)...

Postpubertal teratoma with somatic‑type malignancy
Petr Volf
Ces Urol 2022, 26(1):49-53
Volf P. Postpubertal teratoma with somatic-type malignancy. Metastatic testicular tumors are relatively well treatable tumors that respond to platinum-based chemotherapy. Especially in the therapy of seminomas after primary radical orchiectomy, monitoring of residual masses and chemotherapy predominate before the surgical approach. However, teratomas with somatic-type malignancy are tumors that require surgical treatment. They may develop in patients with seminomas and non-seminomas after previous cisplatin therapy. They usually do not respond to chemotherapy and the only cure is a complete resection of tumor masses.
